A little coconut FIY for your trivia nights

Before we get into the good stuff, we want to take a moment to appreciate the coconut. Here are quick few facts about the coconut we’re betting you didn’t know!

  • During World War II, coconut grenades were used by the Japanese. Similar to the grenades we’re accustomed to, coconuts were filled with explosive materials then thrown in the direction of the enemy.
  • For centuries, coconut fibers have been used to construct armor.
  • The coconut tree is the national tree of the Maldives.
  • A single coconut tree can produce around 150 coconuts per year. Of course, this number varies between regions.
  • The average coconut tree lives 60 – 80 years.
  • Coconut husk can be burned as a natural mosquito repellent.
  • Coconut water is one of the best natural sources of hydration.
  • In various forms, the coconut provides anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-parasitic properties.

It’s time to get creative

Now that you have enough coconut knowledge to get through trivia night let’s get onto the good stuff. Below is a list of ingredients you’ll need to create your martini:

  • Coconut rum, we like Parrot Bay
  • Amaretto such as Disaronno
  • Cream
  • Coconut Milk
  • Chocolate Syrup
  • Toasted Coconut Flakes

First, you’ll want to toast your coconut if you haven’t purchased already toasted coconut shavings. You can do this by shredding sweetened coconut and roasting them on a cookie sheet in the oven for a few minutes. Once roasted and cooled, grab your martini glass. Rim the glass with chocolate, then submerge the rim into your toasted coconut.

Next, combine 2 ½ ounces of your coconut rum with 1 ounce of Amaretto. Then add equal splashes of cream and coconut milk. Finish with a generous squeeze of chocolate sauce. Shake. Pour. Enjoy.

As the number one restaurant in Nashua for martinis (among other things), our staff hopes this frothy, creamy coconut drink is a hit this Thanksgiving! Be sure to check us out on Facebook for more fun facts and inspirations!
