National Kahlua Day: How Your Favorite Nashua Restaurants Are Celebrating

nashua restaurants

February 27th is National Kahlua Day. While we can’t speak for all of the Nashua restaurants, we can tell you that our family at Stella Blu couldn’t be more excited. Not only does this day happen to fall on a Saturday, but Kahlua is one of the main ingredients in our most popular martini – the Espresso Martini!

A bit of history.

Before delving into our delicious recipe, we’d like to take a moment to honor this martini. Relatively new to the game, the espresso martini didn’t gain ground until the mid-1980s. Created by Dick Bradsell in the nightlife of downtown London, this drink was meant to wake you up while getting the job done. In fact, as the story is told, Bradsell claims a young model asked for something to wake her up and, well, you can use your imagination to finish the sentence. First known as the Vodka Espresso, the drink evolved into the Pharmaceutical Stimulate, and then the Espresso Martini.

Bradsell’s original recipe called for vodka, simple sugar, Kahlua, Tia Maria, and a fresh shot of espresso. However, there are several variations depending on the region. And, of course, the bartender!

The Stella Blu Espresso Martini

As a customer favorite, we thought it only appropriate to share our recipe with National Kahlua Day coming up. So, here you go!

Ingredients:

  • Shot of chilled espresso
  • Dash of light cream
  • Three Olives Espresso Vodka
  • Splash of Vanilla Vodka
  • Splash of Godiva White Chocolate Liquor
  • Kahlua

Combine all ingredients into a chilled shaker and mix to create a frothy top. If you don’t have a shaker a home, anything with a lid works (including Tupperware)!

Strain the liquid into a martini glass, add your garnish (see below), and enjoy!

Don’t forget the beans.

Depending on the restaurant, there are several toppings one may find on their espresso martini. However, at Stella Blu, we’re sticking to tradition with three coffee beans.

Place together to resemble a pedal, the floating beans (con la mosca) represent health, wealth, and happiness. Why would anyone want to interfere with that?
